What is Clearing?
Clearing is your opportunity to apply for a university level course if you’re not already holding an offer, or if you want to apply for a different programme altogether.
Whether you’ve had a change of heart since making your original application, or if you’ve only just decided to apply for a degree programme, Clearing could be the way forward.
If you don't have a confirmed university place on Results Day 2026, don't panic. UCAS Clearing is designed to help students find a course with places still available, giving you another opportunity to start university this year.
Every year, thousands of students secure a place through Clearing – whether they've changed their mind about where they want to study, missed the grades for their original choice, or decided to apply to university later than planned.
How does Clearing work?
The process is simple:
- Check if you're eligible – If you don't have a confirmed university place (whether you've declined offers or just haven't applied yet), you may be able to apply through Clearing
- Browse available courses – Universities advertise courses with vacancies, so you can find one that matches your interests and career goals
- Speak to the university – Our Clering call-back service is perfect for this, simply tell us your contact details and the course you're interested in and we'll call you straight back!
- Accept your place – Once you've received an offer, you can add your Clearing choice in UCAS and get ready to start university.
