How to apply for a place at UC Sheffield through UCAS
If you're hoping to study at university in 2025 and you want to apply for more than one course, you'll need to apply through UCAS - the university and colleges admissions service.
Although this might seem daunting, we've broken it down in 5 easy steps for you!
Step 1: Register with UCAS
First things first, you'll need to create a profile with UCAS and fill in their registration questions. If your school or college has given you a 'buzzword' don't forget to enter that too when prompted!
Once you've confirmed you're applying for 'undergraduate' level of study you’ll be taken to your UCAS Hub dashboard, where you’ll see a tile called ‘Your application’. Simply click ‘Start’ to begin your application.
Step 2: Fill in your details
This part involves filling in your personal details and answering a few questions that UCAS use for monitoring purposes.
Make sure that you use your full name (including any middle names!) exactly as it appears on any paperwork or certificates, and an up-to-date email address - this is how UCAS will contact you with any updates to your application so it's important you use a current email!
Step 3: Add your education and employment history
Here you'll enter all your qualifications from secondary education onwards – whether you already have the results or you’re still waiting to take your exams.
It's really important you select the right qualifications on your application – especially if you're taking a vocational qualification, such as a BTEC – as there are a number of different options to choose from in the application. If you're not sure which version of a qualification you're taking, talk to your tutor!
If you've had any paid jobs (part-time or full-time), enter them in this section too. Any volunteer or work experience can go in your personal statement!
Step 4: Select your course choices
You can add up to five choices to your application - whether that's at five different establishments, or five different courses at the same place!
You don't have to add all of your choices right away, you can always add some later, and your universities/colleges won’t see where else you’ve applied until after you reply to any offers you get.

Step 5: Write your personal statement
This is probably the part of the application process you've heard about. It's your chance to tell your chosen universities why you’d like to study with them, and what skills and experience you have that make your a good candidate for their programmes.
If you're at school or college, your teachers will likely help you with writing your personal statement, but you can also check out our top-tips here.
Once you've completed all these steps, all that's left is to pay the application fee and hit submit! UCAS and our Admissions Team will do the rest.
